Boats include essential navigation systems, safety equipment, and onboard amenities for a comfortable trip. Offered in top sailing destinations like Croatia, Italy, Spain, Greece, Turkey, and the British Virgin Islands, this rental lets you explore at your own pace and discover hidden coastal spots.

Why Choose a Sailboat Rental for Your Adventure?

Renting a sailboat offers several key benefits that make your trip unforgettable:

  • Flexible itineraries tailored to your schedule
  • Fully equipped boats with safety gear and amenities
  • Access to secluded bays and hidden beaches
  • Eco-friendly and quiet sailing experience
  • Suitable for all skill levels, from beginners to experts.

What Are the Main Types of Sailboats Available for Rental?

Sailboats vary in size, typically ranging from around 25 to over 80 feet, and differ not only by length but also by their intended use and performance. They are generally categorized based on these factors into the following main types:

  • Sailing Dinghy: Small, lightweight sailboats ideal for beginners and short trips.
  • Daycruiser/Daysailer: Compact sailboats designed for day sailing, with minimal or basic onboard comfort.
  • Cruising sailboat: Larger cruising yachts designed for longer trips and comfortable onboard living. Popular examples include the Oceanis 35 and Dufour 430.
  • Racing Sailboats: High-performance sailboats like the First 44, designed for speed and competitive sailing.
  • Antique/Classic Sailboats: Vintage models offering a nostalgic sailing experience with timeless design.

When Should You Rent a Sailboat for the Best Experience?

Here’s the best time to rent a sailboat in each of the following destinations:

  • Croatia: Late spring to early autumn (May to September) for warm weather and calm seas.
  • Spain: Late spring through early autumn (May to October) for ideal sailing conditions around the Balearics.
  • Turkey: Spring and autumn (April to June and September to October) to avoid extreme summer heat.
  • Italy: Late spring to early autumn (May to September) for pleasant weather along the coasts.
  • Greece: May to October offers warm temperatures and steady winds in Athens and the islands.
  • British Virgin Islands: December to April for dry season and consistent trade winds.

Bareboat vs. Crewed: Which Option Is Right for You?

There are two main types of sailboat charters to fit different preferences and skill levels: bareboat and crewed.

  • Bareboat Charter: This option is perfect if you have sailing experience and want full control over your trip. You rent the sailboat without any crew onboard, meaning you’re responsible for navigating, handling the sails, and all onboard operations. It’s ideal for confident sailors who enjoy the independence and hands-on experience of captaining their own boat.
  • Crewed Charter: If you prefer a more relaxed experience, the crewed charter is the way to go. This option includes a professional crew to manage the boat and ensure a smooth journey. A crewed charter can range from a skippered charter, where only a professional skipper (captain) is onboard to handle navigation and sailing, to a fully crewed charter with additional staff such as a chef and hostess. This allows you to focus on enjoying the trip while the crew takes care of everything else.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a licence to charter a sailboat?

For a bareboat sailboat you’ll need a valid sailing licence and, in most areas, a VHF certificate, since you’re in full charge of it.  Don’t hold a licence? Book it skippered, and an experienced sailor handles the navigation while you enjoy the trip.

What charter options are available for a sailboat?

You can take a sailboat bareboat if you’re qualified, add a skipper to do the sailing for you, or go fully crewed for complete ease. Many guests choose skippered for their first charter - all the sailing, none of the responsibility.

Which sailboats can I choose from?

You'll find 5582 sailboats to compare, with models such as Bavaria Cruiser 46, Oceanis 46.1, Bavaria C42, Oceanis 40.1, Bavaria Cruiser 51, Oceanis 41.1 by Bavaria Yachtbau, Beneteau, Jeanneau and other trusted manufacturers - a mix of sizes from easy weekend cruisers to livelier performance boats.

Why choose a sailboat?

Depending on the model, our sailboats sleep anywhere from a couple to 25 guests in 1-8 cabins - so there's a right size whether you sail as a pair or with a full crew.

How much does it cost to charter a sailboat?

Across the fleet, the average works out to about 1800 Euros per week - roughly 257 Euro a day - with spring and autumn offering the best value.

Is it possible to hire a skipper, and is that included in the initial cost?

The skipper fee is extra and not part of the base charter price. A skipper can be added on all of our sailboats - see the "Optional extras" section on each listing.

What’s included in the price for a sailboat?

You get the sailboat fully equipped and insured, including safety gear. Variable costs such as fuel, mooring fees, tourist tax, end cleaning, and any optional extras are added on top. Fuel and port fees are paid separately according to the real consumption. Inclusions can vary slightly by model, so check the boat’s page for the details.

How do payment and the deposit work?

A 50% deposit confirms your booking, with the balance due no later than 30 days before boarding. If you book within 60 days of departure, the full amount is paid at once. A refundable security deposit is taken at check-in and returned if the sailboat is brought back undamaged; the amount depends on the boat. Read more.

How do I check availability and book a sailboat?

You can see real-time availability directly on the sailboat's page. Select your dates and click the 'Book now' or ‘Send Inquiry’ button to reach our inquiry form. Once you submit your request, we will check the availability and guide you through the next steps, including the reservation details and the deposit payment.

What happens if I need to cancel my booking for a sailboat?

Cancellations are subject to a particular cancellation policy which is slightly different for each boat. Regardless of how far in advance you notify us - even a cancellation more than 4 weeks out doesn't guarantee your money back. This is because the charter company managing the sailboat receives your payment shortly after booking, and any reimbursement decision rests with them, not us. We're happy to advocate on your behalf, but we cannot control or guarantee the result. For peace of mind, consider purchasing travel cancellation insurance when you book. Read more.
