Motor Yacht Charter: Explore the Adriatic and Mediterranean in Style

A motor yacht charter is a way to explore coastal destinations by sea, combining mobility, comfort, and access to places that are often unreachable from land. Available in Croatia, Spain, Italy, Greece, Turkey, and the British Virgin Islands, it allows guests to move easily between destinations while discovering secluded bays, untouched nature, and hidden marine locations along the way

Benefits of Chartering a Motor Yacht for Your Dream Vacation

Motor yacht charter lets you explore the coast on your own terms, combining luxury and flexibility to unlock experiences beyond the usual routes. Here’s what makes it a unique way to travel by sea:

  • Access remote bays and hidden beaches unreachable by land
  • Cover more destinations in less time thanks to speed and range
  • Spacious and comfortable onboard living areas
  • Flexible itineraries tailored to your interests and schedule
  • Ideal for groups or families seeking privacy and convenience

What Types of Motor Yachts Can You Charter?

Motor yachts can be categorized in different ways, with size and design being the most common criteria.

Size categories:

  • Small Motor Yachts (up to 12 meters)
Perfect for day trips and short cruises, these yachts are easy to handle and ideal for small groups or families.
  • Medium Motor Yachts (12 to 24 meters)
The most popular category for charters, medium-sized yachts strike a balance between comfort and manageability. They typically feature multiple cabins, spacious saloons, and can be operated by a small crew.
  • Large Motor Yachts (over 24 meters)
Designed for luxury and long-range cruising, large yachts offer extensive living space and high-end amenities.
  • Superyachts (40 meters and above)
The pinnacle of luxury on water, superyachts combine custom design, advanced technology, and full crew services.

Types of motor yachts by design and function:

  • Classic Yachts
Classic yachts showcase timeless design with elegant hulls and interiors inspired by historical styles. They are often restored vintage yachts or new builds reflecting traditional craftsmanship.
  • Raised Pilothouse Yachts
These yachts have an elevated pilothouse for enhanced visibility and spacious interiors below. They offer a great balance between comfort and efficient operation, ideal for long-distance cruising. A popular model in this category is Azimut Magellano.
  • Flybridge Yachts
Characterized by an open upper deck with helm controls and seating, flybridge yachts provide panoramic views and ample outdoor social space. They are especially suited for warm climates and relaxed cruising. Popular models in this category are Greenline 45 Fly and Greenline 48 Fly.
  • Sportsbridge Yachts
A sportier, streamlined version of flybridge yachts, sportsbridge yachts focus on speed and agility without sacrificing comfort. Explore our selection of top models in this category: Azimut S7 and Prestige Sportfly series.
  • Multihull Yachts
With two or three hulls, multihulls offer exceptional stability and spacious interiors. Their design reduces rolling motion, making them more comfortable in rough seas and fuel-efficient. Find out more about Aquila 44.

Bareboat vs. Crewed: Which Motor Yacht Charter Is Right for You?

There are two main types of motor boat charters designed to fit different preferences and skill levels:

Bareboat Charter: Perfect for experienced sailors who want full control of the boat. You manage navigation, handling, and all onboard operations yourself, giving you the freedom to explore at your own pace.

Crewed Charter: Ideal for those seeking a more relaxed experience. This includes fully crewed options with captain, chef, and hostess, as well as skippered charters where a professional captain handles the navigation while you enjoy the ride. In a crewed charter, the crew takes care of everything so you can focus on relaxing and having fun.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a licence to charter a motor yacht?

A bareboat motor yacht requires a valid boating licence, and in most areas a VHF certificate too. If you’d rather not handle her yourself, add a skipper when booking - we’ll assign a qualified professional and no licence is needed on your part.

What charter options are available for a motor yacht?

Motor yachts come bareboat for licence-holders, skippered with a professional at the helm, or fully crewed with added onboard service. Their range and comfort make skippered and crewed charters especially popular here

Which motor yachts can I choose from?

Our motor yacht fleet currently counts 605 boats, including models such as Motor Boat, Luxury Motor Yacht, Antares 9 OB, Merry Fisher 895, Bavaria Virtess 420 Fly, Fountaine Pajot MY 37 built by names like Jeanneau, Beneteau, Bavaria Yachtbau - covering everything from day-cruisers to long-range trawlers.

Why choose a motor yacht?

Cabin counts range from 1-19, and the largest motor yachts take up to 38 guests - plenty of scope for both intimate escapes and group cruising.

How much does it cost to charter a motor yacht?

A typical week comes to around 6000 euros per week (that's roughly 857 € per day), though size and engine power push individual boats well above or below the average.

Is the skipper included in the price for a motor yacht?

The skipper is an extra cost not included in the base price, unless the charter of that particular motor boat is offered only as ‘skippered’ or ‘crewed’. If you'd rather not take the helm, all motor yachts in the fleet offer a skippered option.

What’s included in the price for a motor yacht?

The base price includes the motor yacht, its standard equipment, and insurance. Because these boats use more fuel, expect that as a notable separate cost, alongside marina fees, tourist tax, cleaning, and any extras. Each boat’s page breaks it all down.

How do payment and the deposit work?

A 50% deposit confirms your booking, with the balance due no later than 30 days before boarding. If you book within 60 days of departure, the full amount is paid at once. A refundable security deposit is taken at check-in and returned if the yacht is brought back undamaged; the amount depends on the boat.

How do I check availability and book a motor yacht?

Browse our selection and check real-time availability on the specific motor yacht's page. To begin, click 'Book now' or ‘Send Inquiry’, fill out the inquiry form, and click 'Send.' Our agents will verify the vessel's availability and reach out to you personally to manage the booking and explain the deposit requirements.

What happens if I need to cancel my booking for a motor yacht?

Payments made toward a motor yacht charter are partly non-refundable, and they depend on each boat’s particular T&C and cancellation policies stated there. In general, if you cancel less than 60 days before the charter start, no refunds will be possible. Since these funds are forwarded to the charter company operating the yacht almost immediately after payment, only they are in a position to authorize any reimbursement. While we'll always try to help secure one, a refund is never guaranteed. We strongly encourage booking travel cancellation insurance to protect yourself against unforeseen circumstances. Read more.
