Scedro

Danielis

A small uninhabited island with a very rugged coast. Until around 1960, the island had a permanent population of around 30 inhabitants who tilled the land. Of its numerous bays with beautiful beaches, Lovisce and Monaster provide the best anchorage on the northern side of the island. Both are protected from all winds except the bora and allow boats to berth. There is a seasonal inn in each of them. The bays on the southern side provide a good shelter from the bora, particularly Portorusa and Borova. On the Monaster Bay lie the ruins of a Dominican monastery from the 16th century. The monastery was abandoned at the end of the 18th century due to frequent pirate raids.
