A modern tourist center with a port on the Makarska Riviera meat the Biokovo Ridge. Its inhabitants rarely engage in agriculture or fishing nowadays, because tourism has become the ain economic activity. Its forests, long pebbly beaches, clear a and good hotels and restaurants have boosted the development of tourism which began in full swing after World War II. In the Gradina elevation lie traces of a settlement and of a /zantine fortress from late antiquity.

The Parish Church of sv. kola (St. Nicholas) was built at the beginning of the 2nd century. The Slavija Hotel, the first tourist facility in town, was built the beginning of the 1930's. Behind a long, unfinished breakwater lie a well-protected marina and two small piers with a depth of up to 2 m. Baska Voda Marina (021) 620 244 - There are 200 berths, 30 spaces for dry storage and a launch ramp. The depth of the sea is 5 m.
