DAY I: Dubrovnik - Šipan

One of the best parts of a sailing trip is eating out. But it is also one of the hardest things when it comes to choosing where to eat, especially when you are in a new place. What is good and authentic? Thanks for asking. When you are on a Dubrovnik sailing route, you should definitely try fresh seafood and fish specialties, anything made or garnished with home-produced olive oil, and the famous traditional Dalmatian dessert – rožata.

For the day one we would recommend fish, so try Restaurant Orsan where you will find wide choice of fresh fish prepared in a traditional way. The restaurant is located in Lapad, just by the sea, with a beautiful view of boats and yachts, in the shade of pine-trees.

Now we have a special treat for you. On beautiful island Šipan one of the most praised „must“ places is located. “Konoba kod Marka”, located opposite the ferry pier on the other side of the bay, is praised by both celebrities and nautical experts who claim that Kod Marka is one of the most favorable venues on the Adriatic coast.

"Possible one of the most perfect setting places on the planet and a family that is cooking produce direct from the sea. It's difficult to get a table here but if you can go!" ~ TripAdvisor

The restaurant is placed right on the water-front and the owner will always greet you with a warm welcome. Many yachtsmen and sailors from all over the world claim that this restaurant has one of the best kitchens in the world. This restaurant really justifies its great reputation with rich choice of amazing gourmet specialties typical for Mediterranean. But, even if you are not here for seafood, the amazing restaurant staff will prepare anything you desire.

"Delicious meal with a stunning view and great atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit! Despite being known for its fish and meat, the chef created us a amazing vegetarian meal upon request. Make sure you book a table in advance as it is so popular." ~ TripAdvisor

Due to its popularity the restaurant is almost always booked, so make sure to make a reservation prior to going. What should you choose to eat? Choose their daily special, it is that good!

DAY II: Šipan – Mljet

Wondering what we have in store next? We will let the words speak for themselves:

"Since I have discovered Stermasi, I can say, without any doubt, that each year and every time I come to Dubrovnik I will make an affort to visit and enjoy - Stermasi is a real paradise, beautifully located, excellent food and drinks, extremely friendly personel and first class service at the same time. Although I have cold feet when recommending Dubrovnik restaurants, the Stermasi restaurant makes an exception - it is a paradise and I hope and wish it will stay that way." ~ TripAdvisor

Today you will sail from Šipan to your next destination, the beautiful island of Mljet. On Mljet we would recommend that you visit "Stermasi Restaurant". Stermasi has great Mediterranean fish and seafood specialties, but the most important thing - it is always freshly caught by local fisherman. You will also have a great sea-view from the restaurant, but if you decide to stay in Stermasi Apartments you will get to enjoy natural rocky beach limpidity of the sea under the one hundred years old alpine pines.

"I was with my family on 3 day vacation. I heard so many good things about this restaurant and family Stermasi but I didn't expect nothing spectacular. Opposite thing happened. It was one of my pleasant surprise about holiday. Adrian the owner he was so helpful and kind. Not only for us,he was attended for everybody and it was my favorite person at this Island. He organized for us even in Dubrovnik taxi and tour. Anyway foods in restaurant was super fresh fish and octopus coming fresh every day catch by local fishermen. Rooms are so clean and some of them having best look. Really something you should do and visit. We hope we coming soon and again definitely." ~ TripAdvisor

Today we have one more special place, praised by the sailors for you - Konoba Porto Rosso located in Lastovo's most beautiful tranquil bay, Skrivena Luka. As the name suggests, Skrivena Luka (meaning hidden bay), is a naturally protected harbour.  PORTO ROSSO is located on the west side of the bay. In what was originally a fisherman's house, has been transformed to provide guests with the comforts of a modern restaurant amongst its natural surroundings.

Porto Rosso center includes a Dalmatian style restaurant, cocktail bar, marina, beach, friendly staff and a variety of other facilities to ensure an enjoyable vacation. Porto Rosso also offers traditional meals, Mediterranean and international specialties.

"Hard to find if you don't know of it, best to come by boat, and spend the whole day. Beautiful terrace in the shade, fantastic croatian/mediterranean food with excellent service. Fresh fish, mussels, and tasty meat. Shrimps in cognac and chilli, baked sheep cheese, lamb shank baked in the oven for many hours are not to be missed. At the end treat yourself with fantastic home made Semifredo with almonds and figs. Yummy. And last but not least, after all this treats, you can take a sun bed in the shades and relax for the rest of the day, (or untill you are ready for a new round)" ~ TripAdvisor

For this  day we have two restaurants; one in Korčuna and one in Pomena, your next location. Restaurant Marco Polo in Korčula will delight you with excellent sea food and view of the open sea. In a matter of minutes you will begin to notice what makes this restaurant so popular, we will also share some experiences from TripAdvisor:

"Well worth a visit when you're in Korcula. This is a great little find, on a side street off the main waterside tourist strip of restaurants. The mixed meat grill was just incredible, all moist meat and smothered in olive oil! You can watch them cooking it on a bbq in the restaurant. Lovely Grk wine to accompany it."

"Just had dinner at the Marco Polo restaurant, and it was amazing! This is my first ever trip advisor review, but I had to take the time to comment on the outstanding food! I had the filet mignon with foie gras and crisp little potatoes, with a black truffle sauce. It was hands down the best meal I have had on my entire trip! The waiter was attentive and very nice too. The wine and dessert were amazing as well. Thank you Marco Polo!"

We feel that Konoba Ana in Pomena on island Mljet will be ideal for your quiet dinner on the mainland. Restaurant has nice view, excellent service and tasty food.

"We were on an island hopping trip, and after a full day at the incredible lakes, we ate in the evening at this fantastic restaurant. The views, service, house wine and food were all superb - it just doesn't get better than this! What I enjoyed more than anything, was how the chef had cooked and presented the whole Sea Bass I had ordered. It was left to sing for itself, in it's own juices, seasoning, olive oil, No unnecessary sauce, just honest to goodness, skilfully cooked fish. Moist, meaty & 100% fresh. Best sea bass I've had, and I've had a lot! Staff were extremely pleasant too and the whole evening is one I will remember forever. Less is more, and I mean that with the highest regard."

"We ate here twice - and the food was great both times. Lovely location right on the sea with beautiful views over the harbour. The menu is not extensive, but the food was very good. Lovely wine too - we had the Posip - local wine from Korcula. The service was also very good."

DAY VI: Mljet – Kobaš bay (Pelješac)

Restaurant-Maestral-Okuklje-Mljet-Dubrovnik-Sailing-Route

The family restaurant Maestral in Okuklje on island Mljet is located on the opposite southern shore 10 minutes on foot from the pier. On the roofedrestaurant terrace, grilled sardines, goat cheese, mussels from Sobra, Scampi buzara, a brodetto of scorpionfish, risotto and, if pre-ordered, octopus or lamb Peka are served. For dessert the chocolate soufflé is noteworthy, amongst others. The cook is the son, who studies at the gastronomic academy.

See why sailors love it "Lucie and I had a fantastic experience at the Maestral. Sailing from Dubrovnik to Split, we decided to stop in Mljet, Okukje for dinner and mooring. The hospitality of the owners and staff was great, they suggested activities for us to do in the afternoon and prepared us a fantastic dinner. We both had their special dinner of local fish grilled to perfection with thier chocolate dessert. A perfect setting for a great evening."

"Atmosphere great, and great fish. Owner is very friendly and very helpful. Great family owned place serving great food."

restaurant-orhan-dubrovnik-gourmet-sailing-route

Last day of our sailing gourmet journey and still a tough choice lies ahead of us. Dubrovnik is full of nice places so choosing just one was nearly impossible.

If you want reasonable prices, enjoy stunning view and be away from the crowds than Restaurant Orhan is right for you. The restaurant is situated at the foot of Tower Lovrjenac, just 200m out of he Old Town. If you sit out on the terrace you’ll have magnificent view of Lovrjenac and the city walls of the Old Town. Restaurant Orhan serves both international and traditional cuisine, and are famous for black cuttlefish risotto.

"This restaurant was the best in Dubrovnik for us. A magical place by the sea with amazing views and great food. Highly recommended"~ TripAdvisor

azur-restaurant-dubrovnik-sailing-route

Next hidden gem lying in the back streets of the Old Town is Azur restaurant located near the western side of the walls. Whether it comes to fish, meat or vegetables, Azur is using the freshest ingredients on the market in order to assure quality, sophisticated taste and customer satisfaction.

Most of the herbs are organically grown and locally sourced from nearby farms. Fish and shellfish are sourced from local fishermen. Azur is known for serving great Mediterranean-Asian fusion meals. Like a shrimp pouch on roasted aubergine in coconut curry sauce. Its an absolute must to be here at sunset, although a great place to be anytime.

While the drinks may cost you a little more than your typical bar – it is very much worth the splurge to enjoy the atmosphere and views.

"I travel a lot for my job and eat at many restaurants. Azur is in my top ten. We stumbled upon it by accident and ended up going twice in the four days we had in Dubrovnik. The food was wonderful, very fresh and delicious. The service was outstanding; Tomislav was our server and was funny and attentive. The chicken and chorizo tacos were to die for. My only regret is that we didn't have time to go a third time. Don't miss this gem, located well off the touristy main street." ~ TripAdvisor
